Remembering Dorothy Nielsen

Beloved matriarch of the Nielsen family Dorothy E Nielsen, age 94, of Lombard passed away September 12 at her home. A forward-thinking businesswoman, Dorothy owned and operated Edmund Nielsen Woodwinds, a business started by her late husband. She spent over 60 years serving musicians all over the world with woodwind instrument accessories both at her shop as well as at the International Double Reed Society’s annual conference. Her most notable specialties were oboe/bassoon reeds and bassoon bocals. Along with running a successful business, Dorothy frequently volunteered at St. Alexander’s Church in Villa Park. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and homemaker, who enjoyed crafting and baking. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and lovingly passed on her talents and traditions to the next generations.
