Dear friend:

Thank you very much for your interest in my reeds. I know it can be a real challenge to find good reeds, since there are so many reed-making and oboe-playing styles out there. Let me give you some background on what I’m making and selling:

To begin with, I only use high quality materials in my production. Starting with the tubes, the ones I use are Nielsen’s professional synthetic tubes. These are 47-milimeter nickel tubes. The type of cane I use is called Arundo Donax, and I get it directly from Argendonax, the factory, in Mendoza, Argentina. I’ve tried numerous other brands and got to the conclusion that this is the best cane around for me, due to its strength and flexibility. I’ve been using Argendonax for a couple of years, and this cane has given me many great reeds. The thread I use is made of bonded Linhanyl nylon. Linhanyl is one of the strongest nylon threads produced in America, and, because it is bonded with special resins, keeps the thread tighter and prevents it from fraying.

The most important thing is that I only sell reeds that I would use to play a concert on. I give my customers exactly what I’d use for my live performances. This requires several sittings and drying periods before they are stable enough not to require extensive modifications when they get to you. However, expect to do a little adjusting based on your individual preferences.

When finished, the length of my reeds goes from 67.5 to 69 mm so they can produce a “C” crow. The shape I use is the Lucarelli shape. This shape is the combination of the Mack-1 and Bloom shapes. This shape is extraordinary, because what Lucarelli achieved with it, as he explained it to me, is “capitalizing Mack’s shape’s stability and Bloom’s shape’s warmth.” My reeds are comfortable, warm, extremely flexible and in tune by the time they leave my place. As an oboe player, you know how delicate new reeds are. Reeds are very sensitive to moisture, dry weather, change of temperature and altitude, and various other factors that might change your reeds’ characteristics over time and also during shipping. Therefore, this implies that you be open to minor adjustments so my reeds perfectly adjust to your unique playing characteristics.

Very importantly, our current dry weather may dry and open up my reeds or even close them, by the time they get to you. Do not worry, that’s a natural reaction to our aggressive weather. Just make sure to soak them very well, for at least 2 minutes and they’ll go back to their original shape. Again, please, make sure to tell whoever plays on these reeds to soak them for at least 2 minutes. This will also make certain the reeds vibrate and work properly. My reeds are guaranteed for any kinds of structural deficiencies.

Once again, thank you for choosing my reeds and enjoy them!!!!
